It’s been 3 years since we started this journey together. I know, I really, really hoped we would’ve gotten results by now. It’s been radio silence since the last update a year and a half ago, so I just wanted to let y’all know that we’re still here and we’re still fighting.
You've probably heated Regal-Cineworld has filed for Chapter 11 and is trying not to go belly up. For right now, they’re closing underperforming multiplexes a few dozen at a time in order to cut down on operating costs. They are still performing renovations and upgrades at some theaters. Of course, there’s the lingering fear that Pointe Orlando could be one of the next theaters to get shut down. But Pointe Orlando sits in the middle of the tourism hub of the world’s most visited destination, and they have one of the few standing purpose built IMAX Grand Theaters in the world, so if I were Regal, I wouldn’t dare think about touching that place.
If you’ve visited the Pointe IMAX lately, you have likely noticed a very distracting defect right vertically down the center of the screen. It’s sad that Regal has chosen to prioritize profits instead of fixing this issue. If you have recently visited and noticed the defect or plan to visit soon, P-L-E-A-S-E bug Regal’s ear off about it. Tell local management directly in person, send a message to Regal on one of their social media outlets, emphasize your displeasure and how distracting it is. Most importantly, send an email to CQO@IMAX.com, Chief Quality Officer at IMAX. They take defect and quality issues at IMAX theaters very seriously. For maximum effect, take a picture of the defect and attach it to your message. It’s one thing to continue to operate this theater with inferior projection, but continuing to operate when the screen is torn in half because they don’t want to lose profits by shutting down and getting the issue fixed is inexcusable.
