Transporting this nearly 1000-year-old embroidery poses risks of irreparable damage to an irreplaceable historical artefact.
This proposed exchange undermines the efforts of countless historians and conservators who have striven to preserve its condition over the years. It is almost a thousand years old, in an increasingly fragile condition. It is irreplaceable. We should not risk its damage or loss by moving it. Warmer relations between UK and France are very welcome and much appreciated, but this looks suspiciously like irresponsible political posturing.
