Yacob and his family face Ealing Council in local CPO public inquiry

- Show your support on Tues 31st Jan, 10am, Ealing Town Hall.

Last week, a local public inquiry saw Yacob W and his family go up against Ealing Council and developers who are bullying him to take his home away.  About two years ago, they issued a Compulsory Purchase Order to make way for the next phase of a huge redevelopment of the South Acton Estate.  Yet, Yacob claims this process has not been fair, transparent or safe as they have been given a low offer that will not allow them to stay in the area.  They have also been made to live in their fourth-floor flat sometimes with no lift, no heating or hot water and strangers coming into the building.

XR Climate Emergency Demo, 12pm, Saturday, 28th January, Clapham Park Estate.  See further updates for exact location.

XR Lambeth and Refurbish Don't Demolish will be coming together alongside Lambeth Tree Watch, Radical Housing Network, and Save Central Hill to mark Lambeth's fourth anniversary since the declaration of a climate emergency but has little to show for it.

350+ trees are planned to be felled on the Clapham Park Estate, by a housing developer, on what used to be council land.  Six other estates across Lambeth, including Central Hill, Cressingham Gardens and Fenwick are still a target for  demolition by Lambeth Council itself.

Demolishing and rebuilding housing is the most inefficient activity that a council can do.  It is both socially & environmentally damaging, costs a fortune and houses only the smallest amount of additional homeless families, if any.

We are marking the anniversary with a celebration and demonstration on the  Clapham Park Estate, highlighting the 350+ trees that are gong to be cut down against the backdrop of a more than 15-year development knocking down existing buildings to build denser more expensive homes.

This is environmental destruction on our doorstep.  What was public land has now become mainly for private investment at a huge cost to nature.

Come and find out more about these trees and  how valuable they are to people and nature with decorations and writing your thoughts on climate change on 'leaves' to be handed in to the Lambeth Council on Tuesday 31st, around 2pm. tbc.

Join in the call to end demolition and privatisation of land for the few who benefit.
