Petition updateRefurbish Don't Demolish Social HousingIs Housing the Homeless Really Lambeth's Intention?

Lambeth Council is selling off 4-bedroom council homes at the same time as leaving hundreds of empty properties across the six estates it hopes to demolish.  Nor did Lambeth Council's planning department require a reprovisioning of the homeless provision at 3 Highland Road, a former children's home, which faces demolishing and rebuilding into open market homes.  There is no requirement to build any social or affordable homes for the local community, certainly not the homeless.  The current, temporarily-housed residents will simply be moved out to make way for the development if it is given the go-ahead.

Lambeth Council is selling this 2 x four-bedroomed property and a two-bed bungalow in the garden for £1,350,000, at auction this Thursday.  This is a COUNCIL property that could house two large families from the waiting list and a smaller one.

This huge property is only a stone's throw away from Central Hill Estate that is facing demolition in order to provide homes for the homeless, apparently, although the council's own figures do not support this.

Central Hill is littered with decent three- and one-bedroom homes.  Listen to one of our campaigners, Georgina, at the recent Action on Empty Homes rally, which highlighted that there are possibly 100 empty homes on our estate.  She explains clearly how the council's actions do not reflect its words when it comes to providing decent homes for the homeless.

These actions show that Homes for Lambeth and its plan to demolish is for private gain and not to build social or affordable homes.

Please sign and share this petition asking Lambeth Council to apply for a GLA grant to simply buy back ex-council homes and make them social housing.

It's a no-brainer.  Wandsworth has managed to apply and now has funding to buy back 50 homes.  Why has Lambeth not applied?

Is Lambeth Council really interested in the housing needs of its residents?
