Reform Warrington Borough Council's Housing Allocation Policy

Reform Warrington Borough Council's Housing Allocation Policy
The Issue
I am a resident of Warrington who has personally experienced the difficulties of securing suitable housing due to the current allocation policy of our borough council. This policy is not only affecting me but also many other vulnerable individuals within our community, leaving us without the help we desperately need.
WHA will offer up to 50% of vacancies each year to Warrington Borough Council, currently via Torus 'Under One Roof'. Nominations will be prioritised according to their allocation policy. We will offer an agreed % of vacancies to those accepted as Priority homeless and in an urgent need of rehousing.
The current housing crisis in Warrington is a clear indication that this policy isn't working. According to Shelter, there are over 280,000 people in England on waiting lists for social housing (source: Shelter UK). While specific numbers for Warrington aren't readily available, it's safe to assume that we're part of this troubling statistic.
The figures also show the rate of rough sleepers has risen across the country – from 4.3 per 100,000 people in 2021 to 5.4 per 100,000 last year. In Warrington, 5.7 per 100,000 people were estimated to be sleeping rough last year – up from 4.7 the previous year.
This situation calls for immediate reform. We need a fair and effective system that prioritizes those most in need and ensures everyone has access to suitable accommodation. It's time for the council to reassess its approach and make necessary changes.
We urge the Warrington Borough Council to review their allocation policy with an emphasis on aiding vulnerable residents like myself who are struggling with housing issues. Please sign this petition if you believe in fair access to housing for all residents of our town.
