Reform the unresponsive UIF system
The Issue
What is UIF, and Why Does It Matter?
The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) is supposed to protect your clients’ workers when they’re retrenched, on maternity leave, sick, or unemployed.
It’s law. Every compliant business pays into it. Every month.
We are representatives of accountants who serve South Africa’s small businesses and see firsthand the daily struggles faced by employers and employees due to the inefficiency of the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF). Life for our Members, who are tirelessly working to keep employers compliant and workers paid, has become untenable due to the ongoing failures of the UIF system.
The system that should safeguard the livelihoods of millions is now entirely offline and unresponsive, creating a deadlock that is felt across every sector. Accountants are unable to register clients, employers find it impossible to comply with necessary regulations, and workers are left stranded, unable to claim their rightful benefits. In this vacuum of accountability, corruption festers, undermining the trust in our institutions.
How can we accept a reality where professionals have to queue for hours, send multiple emails that remain unanswered, and ultimately lose clients due to a failing system? The current state of the UIF does not just affect accountants but weighs heavily on all citizens and businesses relying on its proper functioning.
We demand comprehensive reforms, starting with urgent system repairs to turn the online components back into action. Real-time support systems are crucial, and a commitment to service transparency is non-negotiable. Furthermore, the Department of Labour must be held accountable to ensure both immediate and long-term solutions, safeguarding our professionals, employers, and most critically, the workers.
If the UIF doesn't operate efficiently, then our country will fail. By signing this petition, you support a call for urgent, national action to address the shortcomings of the UIF system. Together, we can drive the change necessary to restore faith in and functionality to one of South Africa’s vital public services. Please sign to support our effort for immediate reform of the UIF system.
