Reform the procedures relating between FDSV and Child Protection notifications

The issue

My first, second, and thirdhand experiences with child protection and domestic violence have shown me the urgent need for policy reform.

This is not just my story but the story of countless others going through the same heartbreaking ordeal. Currently, we have a system that too often penalizes mothers trying to escape abusive situations, with their children being removed as a consequence. This is a demand for a comprehensive review of related procedures and policies.

Every year, victims and survivors of domestic violence face the dual trauma of abuse and the possible removal of their children by authorities. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, every minute, 20 people are physically abused by their partner in the United States. When these victims are also parents, they live in a constant state of anxieties, both for their own wellbeing and the safety of their kids.

We are calling on the legislative ministers to step in and bring about a change. We are asking for fairness, transparency, and consideration for the unique complexities revolving around domestic violence in relation to child safety measures.

This petition is a plea for a formal meeting with ministers in the next two weeks. We aim to present the lived experiences of victims and survivors of domestic violence, the impacts on families and children alike, and as a result, put forward effective strategies for change.

We urge legislators to hear our voice, understand our plight, and make the necessary changes to ensure the safety and well-being of children, while protecting their right to family unity wherever possible. It's time to change the narrative and eliminate the cycle of successive caregiving affected by violence.

Please, we ask you to support these changes, sign this petition and help us bring about a necessary reform within our child protection and domestic violence systems.
