The Issue

  • As a retired resident of Whitehall Township, I have been excessively burdened by the current garbage collection billing system. I am living on a fixed income. This system, which levies a charge of $602.70 annually, requiring payment for 52 pickups, is exceedingly burdensome for many of us who do not require weekly pickups.

In my case, I only require 12 pickups yearly, equivalent to once a month. However, I am obligated to pay for pickups that I do not use. There are also other homes that only put out their garbage twice a month, yet still bear the full cost. We are essentially paying for a service we are not utilizing fully.

The system should be justly reformed to charge only for the garbage that we as residents put out and that is picked up. It is not only equitable but also promotes responsible waste management and reduces financial strain on households.

We urge the local municipal authorities to reassess the current garbage collection billing system. Let's establish a more proportionate and fair system that charges us based on the actual pickups, rather than a fixed number. This change is crucial for the well being of Whitehall Township's older and fixed-income residents — including me — who are unduly burdened by the current system.

Please sign this petition to urge a much-needed change to Whitehall Township's garbage collection billing.
