Reform the Electoral College to Represent the Popular Vote Fairly

Reform the Electoral College to Represent the Popular Vote Fairly
The Issue
As an American deeply concerned about our election system, I've been reflecting on the potency of our votes in the context of the Electoral College. I believe that by making the representation of the popular vote in the Electoral College proportional, much like the systems in Maine and Nebraska, we would be creating a fairer and more democratic system.
Currently, most states adopt a winner takes all system where the candidate with the most votes receives all the electoral votes. A shift towards proportional distribution would reflect the "will of the people", making our elections a more genuine representative of the popular vote.
According to a study by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, a more proportional Electoral College system would also open avenues for third-party candidates, strengthening our democracy by providing a greater variety of choices (U.S. National Academy of Sciences, 2019).
Our electoral system should prioritize its people, not limit them. Let's promote a fair and just system that truly reflects our nation’s democratic values. Sign this petition to bring attention to this necessary reformation in the Electoral College system.
While this petition is Colorado specific, this is something that should be done in all fifty states!
UNLESS WE MODIFY THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE, NOTHING WILL CHANGE REGARDLESS OF WHO THE CANDIDATES ARE. What is it they say? "Nothing changes if nothing changes". Do we have what it takes to make real changes?
Here's the deal, I did not vote for DT and feel he is doing irreparable harm to our nation and to our families. Others feel differently, which is certainly their right. I think most of us feel our votes are not fairly represented under the current system.
Assuming we have another true presidential election in 3 1/2 years, what will be different? Seriously, what will have changed? We will still have two parties completely divided and another third of the nation trying to push a 3rd party candidate, which we will all say took away from OUR candidate wining the election and we'll keep fighting and fracturing our relationships.
I don't blame the new generation wanting the third party - they aren't the first and they won't be the last. I would love to see a third party candidate actually have a chance - in fact, I would like to believe even a forth or fifth party candidate might stand a chance but it's never going to happen with our electoral system.
NO, I don't believe we need to "abolish" the electoral system - I think we actually need it BUT we need to make some serious changes.
My sister canvassed for Ross Perrot before the 1992 election and although he got something like 20 million votes, he did not get a single EC vote. Do you know why? I didn't until my sister schooled me a bit on the Electoral College and how it works. Do YOU know how it works?
Do you know that 48 states have a "Winner take All" system? Only two states have a proportional electoral college system. Seriously, only Maine and Nebraska have figured out that a proportional system more fairly represents the "popular" vote. I'm not saying the outcome would have been different in any particular election, I'm simply saying a proportionalized voting system where ALL FIFTY states split their EC votes according to the popular votes, two very important things could be accomplished.
1) The popular vote is more fairly represented across the nation.
2) Third party candidates might have a chance as many of us might consider casting a vote that way if we didn't know that it was more likely than not the candidate would get zero EC votes under our current system.
Of course, this would also require that we do away with the current requirement of 270 Electoral College Votes to determine the presidency - I haven't thought that one all the way through but I'm certain, if there is actually a will to change the system to more fairly represent the popular vote, it could be done if we worked together to make it happen.
