Reform the BBC Eurovision selection process

Reform the BBC Eurovision selection process
The Issue
For years, UK Eurovision fans have waited for the BBC announcement, hoping that maybe this time they finally get it right.
Instead, we keep getting the same result. Weak staging. Gimmicks. Poorly produced entries. Songs that do not reflect the strength of the UK music industry or what Europe is actually responding to.
The biggest example came in 2024.
There was genuine hype across Europe around the possibility of Rina Sawayama representing the UK with “Frankenstein.” For once, people were excited for the UK. The song felt bold, modern, theatrical, and competitive.
Then the official announcement came, and the excitement completely dropped.
This is not hate towards Mae Muller. She deserved support. But for many fans, it felt like another missed opportunity and another example of the BBC playing things safe instead of sending something with real impact.
Fans are tired of feeling ignored under the current Eurovision strategy led by Andrew Cartmell and Lucy Youngman.
We want:
- More transparency
- Better staging and production
- Artists that actually represent modern UK music
- Bigger creative risks
- A return to a televised UK national selection
Countries like Sweden and Italy build huge excitement around Eurovision through national finals that engage both fans and international audiences. The UK should be doing the same instead of relying on closed internal selections year after year.
The UK has the talent.
The UK has the music industry.
What we need now is the right strategy.
Sign this petition if you believe the BBC needs to change its Eurovision approach before more opportunities are wasted.
