Our county voices have been silenced on this issue too many times. In Easley, South Carolina, we filled the chambers to overflowing with neighbors and brought in TV cameras to shine a light on city leaders actions. The city did not want to hear us and brought forward a 1977 ordinance that was purposefully misinterpreted to silence our voices. This not only affected us but also created a 'donut hole' for two local farmers whose livelihoods now hang in the balance as they deal with stormwater issues, wildlife displacement, and density issues like traffic and crime.

The current 100% Annexation Method allows such actions to take place without adequate consideration of its impact on local communities and individuals. It's time for this law to change.

South Carolina is known for its rich history and vibrant communities, but these are being threatened by unchecked development under this law. We need legislation that balances growth with preservation and respects the rights of all residents.
