Reform Tax Laws for Fair Distribution of Benefits

Reform Tax Laws for Fair Distribution of Benefits
The Issue
As a father, I have often observed the outdated and unfair nature of tax benefits distribution between custodial and non-custodial parents. I firmly believe change is crucial for the evolution of society and life, and having witnessed the effects of these unfair laws, I feel an urgent need for reform. Our current laws promote single-parent households, encourage absentee parenting, and fuel family splits due to discrepancies surrounding child support and the rights to claim dependents on taxes.
We propose a more equitable system: automatic alternation of dependent claims. In instances of joint custody or when a non-custodial parent fulfills child support obligations and plays an active role in their child’s life, the right to designate the child as a dependent for tax benefits should alternate automatically between the parents each tax year.
Not only would this encourage both parents to continue playing crucial roles in their children's lives, but also help distribute the benefits and burdens of raising children more evenly. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 22.4 million parents lived separately from their children in 2020, pointing to a significant number of families who could benefit from these changes (source: U.S. Census Bureau, 2020).
It's time to voice our cry for fairness, for the sake of our own families and countless others. Please, let's unite to foster positive societal evolution, advocate for equal treatment of parents, and combat the promotion of "deadbeat parenting." Sign the petition and join our fight for fair tax laws.
