My personal struggle with housing began when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Like many others, my credit and rental history were severely impacted, leading to a situation where I am now being denied access to regular apartments. Additionally, the soaring rental prices have made it nearly impossible for me to secure a place to live.

The current rental laws do not adequately protect individuals like myself who are struggling due to circumstances beyond our control. The lack of rent control has led to skyrocketing rents that are unaffordable for many average citizens.

Accordingly, we demand an urgent reform in the rental laws that would ease access to housing for those with less-than-perfect credit or rental history. We also call for the implementation of rent control measures that would prevent landlords from arbitrarily increasing rents.

It is estimated that 43 million households in America are renters (source: U.S Census Bureau). Many of these households face similar struggles as mine due to high rents and stringent requirements by landlords.
