We are devastated to share that the District Attorney is only seeking 7 years for the 15-year-old who took Lorenso’s life. This is not justice.
Under current California law — most likely due to Proposition 57 — violent juveniles are protected from being tried as adults unless a judge specifically approves it. In many cases, they are automatically kept in the juvenile system, regardless of how serious the crime is. That means Lorenso’s killer could be free by age 22.
Lorenso was only 17. He had dreams. He had a future. Now he's gone, and 7 years is all his life is worth under the law?
This is exactly why we are fighting for Lorenso’s Law — to reform Prop 57 and make sure that violent crimes like this can’t be brushed aside with minimal punishment just because of the offender’s age.
We are not against giving youth second chances — but we are for accountability, especially when a life has been lost.
