Reform Policies and Prevent Elder Abuse in Nursing and Retirement Homes
The Issue
Some of you may know there is pain and distress loved ones have experienced while being residents in nursing homes that has urged us to take action. There are many indications of systemic issues that demands immediate attention to mistreatment of elders. The purpose of this petition is to advocate for better treatment of all humans, especially our vulnerable elderly population, in nursing and retirement homes.
Currently, an alarming number of healthcare professionals in nursing home centers are guilty of mistreatment, neglect, and taking advantage of elderly residents. It is our collective responsibility to call out and address these wrongdoings. The National Council on Aging states that as many as 1 in 10 Americans aged 60+ has experienced some form of elder abuse. This statistic alone underscores the gravity of the situation.
We are calling upon the relevant policy makers and regulatory bodies to review and reform policies pertaining to nursing and retirement homes. Protections against elder abuse must be strengthened, and the enforcement of these policies needs to be more rigorous. Moreover, annual audits and unannounced check-ins in these centers should become a uniformly implemented measure to ensure consistent accountability.
Join us as we demand dignity, respect, and proper care for our elderly loved ones in nursing and retirement homes. Together, we can eradicate elder abuse and create an environment where our loved ones can age with the grace and dignity they deserve. Please, sign and share this petition. Let's ensure their voices are heard, and their lives are valued.
