Reform Our Bail, Parole Laws and the Justice System for Repeat Offenders

Reform Our Bail, Parole Laws and the Justice System for Repeat Offenders
The issue
One year ago, our lives were forever scarred. Our beautiful and innocent Mia, just 12 years old, was taken from us in a devastating accident. A repeat offender, high on multiple substances and with a massive history of driving offences and violence, was wrongly out on parole. This man, responsible for the loss of our angel, ruthlessly ploughed into our car at a shocking speed of 150km/h. He now faces 25 charges for this case yet has pleaded not guilty. This horrifying incident is a stark reminder of the grave flaws in our bail and parole laws, and the justice system that allows such individuals to roam free.
Indeed, it is well-documented that our current justice system often does not adequately represent the interests of victims. The Bureau of Justice Statistics reports that nearly 44% of released prisoners were arrested again within a year of release And this percentage goes up as more time passes after release.
The statistics reinforce what we have painfully experienced first-hand - that our system urgently needs reforming. Repeat offenders should not be granted easy parole, particularly when they have a severe history of offenses. It is high time we change the way our justice system operates, to ensure that no one else loses their Mia.
We call upon our representatives to enact tougher laws on bail and parole, especially for repeat offenders and those with a track record for violent offenses. Our desperate plea is driven by the sorrowful image of a young girl, whose life was abruptly taken away by a man who should never have had the chance to do so.
Please, join us in our fight for justice. Sign this petition and demand a reform Now - for Mia, and the many others who were and could be, victims of such gross injustice.
