Reform NRL's Use of Replays and Establish Comprehensive Concussion Protocols

Reform NRL's Use of Replays and Establish Comprehensive Concussion Protocols
The issue
As passionate Rugby League fans and followers, we are deeply concerned about the current trends in the NRL's use of replays to sin bin and penalise players. Frustratingly, it's apparent that these punishments for what are often accidents do not actually contribute to reducing contacts with the head. Instead, this retrospective action can tarnish the flavors of the matches, without necessarily decreasing occurrences of concussions.
The heart of the game, the spirit of the players, and the investment from countless individuals are jeopardised by the current system of televised replays, through which contacts that would typically go unpunished are heavily penalised. This ushers in an air of unfairness, as the protocol seems haphazard rather than being preventative or with a clear purpose.
We request that the NRL make the following reforms to help protect players and ensure a fair game:
1. Cease using the bunker to oversee head contact unless there is evidence of deliberate foul play.
2. Clearly define head knocks as either avoidable or unavoidable to establish fair penalties.
3. Guarantee the activation of up to two fresh reserves for any players forced to leave a game due to concussion from any contact.
Given the risks, it seems reasonable that players should sign waivers not to sue the game in the event of head contact. Additional player health and safety measures need to be enforced holistically, rather than relying on replays that do not positively contribute to reducing impacts.
The future of NRL lies in secure, balanced decision-making that keeps the integrity of the game intact, whilst prioritising player safety above all. Please join us in signing this petition and standing up for a fairer, safer NRL.
