Reform Immigration Procedures for International Students in Canada

The Issue

We are international students who have dutifully provided full-time personal support services in Windsor and various Canadian cities. Our stories echo through the halls of Canadian nursing homes, homes of families dealing with the physical,  mental and behavioral challenges of loved, hospitals, and communities who have come to depended on our compassion, empathy and care. Our Post Graduate Work Permit has expired and we now stand on the brink of an abyss, threatened with joblessness, homelessness and despair after contributing over 1590 hours of postgraduate experience in critical care positions.

We are embroidered in the communities we served. Making friends, building bonds and contributing to enhance and sustain the rich diversity and prosperity of our various communities.

Our predicament is not unique. It is shared by other international students across Canada who have diligently accumulated work experience, integrated into local communities and contributed to the economy. Yet, paradoxically, work permits are often granted to individuals without any Canadian experience or any substantial ties to the local communities or economic means to sustainable growth without government support.

The trajectory of our lives has altered abruptly with the refusal of a new work permit. We are at the mercy of an immigration system that seems oblivious to our contributions and indifferent to our plight. This current system, by refusing us the opportunity to renew our work permits and provide a clear pathway to Permanent Residency, negates our contributions to Canadian society and economy while fostering a climate of uncertainty, fear, and despair.

We call for a comprehensive reform of immigration procedures affecting international students that wants to continue to reside in canada to be given a chance. We seek a fair and inclusive system that acknowledges our contributions, values our experiences, and provides a clear pathway to permanent residency.

We call on you, Permanent Resident and Canadians, to lend your support and signature to this urgent petition. Your support will play a pivotal role in urging policy-makers and institutions to address this issue swiftly and secure a fair and promising future for all international students in Canada. Please sign this petition today and share to your family,  friends, neighbors, colleagues and others. Thank you and God bless you.
