Reform Georgia Child Support Laws for Equal Treatment for Noncustodial Parents

Reform Georgia Child Support Laws for Equal Treatment for Noncustodial Parents
The Issue
For over 22 years, I've been caught in a relentless struggle with the Georgia child support system. My daughter, who graduated high school and turned 18 four years ago, was last seen by me when she was just four years old. Despite her being well past the age of 18, I remain burdened with $586 monthly payments. This is untenable, and exacerbated by the fact that I cannot afford the costly legal assistance necessary to navigate or rectify the situation.
The current child support framework in Georgia heavily favors custodial parents, providing them with free state legal services, while noncustodial parents, such as myself, have no access to public defenders or similar legal aid. This disparity often leaves us powerless and without recourse, living in perpetual financial strain and emotional distress.
It's time for change. Reforming Georgia's child support laws to ensure equal access to justice for noncustodial parents will alleviate unnecessary burdens and protect parental rights. Introducing public defender services at low or no cost for noncustodial parents facing child support disputes is a crucial step towards balancing the scales of justice in family law.
Georgia must implement policies that acknowledge the financial difficulties inherent in these legal battles and provide noncustodial parents, who already fulfill their financial obligations, the means to adequately represent themselves.
Let's make Georgia's child support system equitable for all parents involved. Sign this petition to push for legislative reform that will usher in fairness and justice for noncustodial parents in Georgia.
