Reform Education Curriculum in Bangladesh

The Issue

I'm a Bangladeshi student, and much like many of my fellow peers, I am at the heart of the drastic changes to our education system. Recently implemented curriculum changes, leaning heavily on Indian educational models, have left the student body disoriented and discontent. The previous curriculum was leaned to UK educational models.

We were promised a transition towards the praiseworthy Finnish education system, yet what we received was a curriculum that has strayed from fostering growth and enlightenment, regressing into a structure built on assignments and leaks of question paper. This is a far cry from the original promise. Our previous curriculum was criticized for its force of memorization, unrealistic demands, pushing students to the brink in an attempt to mirror the UK system's intensive approach. But our new model feels like a swing to bust, favoring an unbalanced and culturally alien Indian educational model.

So, where do we turn to? We propose that Bangladesh should consider adopting elements of the Canadian or Japanese educational models. Both systems prioritize learning critical life skills, allowing scholars to apply practicality to theory. Whereas our existing programs focus on rote memorization, these models emphasize the learning and understanding of concepts, allowing students to truly appreciate the importance and relevance of their studies.

Japanese and Canadian systems also promote a balanced academic, social and emotional learning experience; they imbibe their students with a holistic education, teaching them to be citizens of the world. Their students are not just academically excellent; they thrive as well-rounded individuals.

Our demand is for educational reform, for the implementation of sustainable, student-friendly curriculum that truly caters to the needs of the Bangladeshi youth. With this petition, we do not just stand against what is detrimental to our learning; we advocate for a brighter, inclusive future for all Bangladeshi students.
