Reform Colorado State University AUCC Category 1C Course Requirements

The Issue

Students and staff at Colorado State University that belong to marginalized groups deserve to be welcomed into a space in which their community recognizes their struggles in our society. These individuals should not feel responsible to educate those in their community about their oppression and marginalization or teach them about respectful and inclusive practices in order to feel seen and heard.

Incidents of racism have previously occurred on Colorado State University's campus. An infamous instance of this being the 2019 blackface incident in which four white students posted photos of themselves wearing blackface and were not punished for their racially insensitive behavior.

The creation and implementation of diverse and inclusive courses at CSU is important not only for students that belong to marginalized groups, but also for students who do not. Learning about diversity and inclusion creates a more accepting, well-rounded, and realistic student body that acknowledges the weaknesses in our world and how they affect others.
