I am a father who has been struggling with the burden of child support debt, which was imposed on me based on false claims. For the first 7 or 8 years of my children's lives, I was present and supportive. However, their mother falsely claimed that I wasn't there since their birth, leading to an unjust imposition of backdated child support payments. This situation has led me into a cycle of debt that is impossible to escape due to excessive interest rates applied by the law. We need to limit the ridiculous interest that Child Support tacks on especially in California whom has the highest interest rate allowed by law! I am not a dead beat father and I agree that child support should be paid but what our States do and how they impose their actions is outrageous and just plain wrong!

Moreover, my driver's license was taken away as part of this process. This action severely limited my ability to secure well-paying jobs and further compounded my financial struggles. Additionally, when tax season arrives, the full amount is seized for child support arrears - leaving me with nothing.

This is not just about me; it's about countless others facing similar situations across our nation. According to a report from The Guardian (2015), over $113 billion in unpaid child support debts were owed in the US alone - much attributed to unfair interest rates and penalties.

We need change now! We call upon lawmakers to reform laws governing child support payments – specifically those related to interest rates on arrears and penalties like driver’s license suspension that hinder our ability to earn income effectively. It's time for fairness in our system; it's time for change!
