Reform Australia's Family Law and Child Support Systems

Reform Australia's Family Law and Child Support Systems
The issue
I am a father who has experienced firsthand the biases of Australia's family law and child support systems. Despite having evidence to refute false allegations, I was slapped with a violent restraining order. My attempts to prove my innocence fell on deaf ears. Even in family court, the children's lawyer refused to acknowledge my counselling report, labelling me an angry, violent man without any qualifications to make such an assertion.
This personal experience is not unique. Many men in Australia are treated like criminals when trying to stay involved in their children's lives while mothers use false allegations against them. These accusations can be proven false yet still work against these fathers.
Australia’s child support system further promotes parental alienation by financially rewarding the receiving parent if they withhold the children from the paying parents while not following court orders.
According to a study by Deakin University, almost half of separated parents believe that Australia’s family law system failed their families (Deakin University 2018). This statistic reflects how deeply flawed our current system is and highlights an urgent need for reform.
We call upon Australian lawmakers and policymakers for immediate action - we demand fair treatment for all parties involved in custody battles and child support cases. We urge you to review existing laws that allow for misuse and manipulation leading to unjust outcomes.
It is time we put our children first by ensuring both parents have equal rights unless proven otherwise with substantial evidence. Let us create a fairer legal environment where every voice is heard, every piece of evidence considered, where justice truly prevails over prejudice or bias.
Please sign this petition today; let us together bring about much-needed change in Australia’s family law and child support systems.
