Reestablish the Bowling Alley at Eastway Diner, Kent State University
The Issue
As a member of the Kent State University community, I have personally experienced the joy and relaxation that comes from spending time at our beloved Eastway Diner and Deli, but it used to offer more than just a place to eat, it was a spot for entertainment. It was more than just a place to play; it was a sanctuary where we could unwind, reduce stress, and enjoy good company. Unfortunately, this cherished spot is no longer available to us.
The closure of the bowling alley has left a void in our university life. Not only did it provide entertainment but also served as an avenue for social interaction and mental relaxation amidst rigorous academic schedules. According to studies by Harvard Medical School, activities like bowling can help reduce stress levels and improve mental well-being (Harvard Health Publishing).
Reopening the Eastway Diner's bowling alley would not only reinstate an important part of our university culture but also contribute positively towards student wellness on campus.
”I bowled my entire 4 years in high school and had a blast winning multiple events and championships. It would be a blessing for KSU to open to bowling alley backup seeing as it would get much more use than it once did. The nearest bowling alley would be too far to walk to with bowling equipment and the reopening of this bowling alley would definitely make a lot of us feel more open to getting around at KSU”- Ryan Everhardt
“It only closed because people weren't coming during covid... Of course there was a decline in use during covid, no one wanted to get sick! That issue is over now, and the bowling alley could make an amazing return to our campus!”- Emmett Johnson
Although I have not had the chance to experience it, and how it was closed due to low participation, bowling is becoming more popular, and with proper advertising it would be a great addition. Allowing for increased social interaction opportunities, a great a fun way to reduce stress, and a get away for something to do and hang out.
We urge Kent State University to reconsider their decision and reopen this vital part of our community life. Please sign this petition if you believe in restoring this valuable resource for fun, relaxation, and stress relief at Kent State University.
