According to recent reports reported by economic times, the government has made up a wonderful policy that is going to be implemented approximately around April. The policy will enable White collar workers, even those at managerial positions, to get overtime wages as per a prescribed amount. Although this does not completely fall in line with our cause it does help us a lot. This over increased expenditure on the companies would force them to leave employees from work on time. Although the new joiners would have to bare the brunt in certain conditions, when companies find a workaround to this and reduce salaries for new joiners in order to make them work extra and pay overtime wages.
Nonetheless, it is still a great move as it signifies that the labour ministry is doing something rather than nothing, which was prevalent during previous regimes. The next step for the government should be to fix working hours to strictly 40 hours a week and also to fix the maximum overtime hours allowed in a month. And above all a strong punishment for companies violating our labour laws and taking our labour for granted. This will actually stop companies from violating Indian labour laws and Indian employment. This would force the corporates to value Indian employees. Indian employees are economically cheap, But that does not mean that Indian labour is not human. Fighting, hoping and waiting for this to be implemented uniformly throughout the country.
A humble request to the labour and employment ministry to take this petition into account while making policy decisions for Indian labour/employment laws.
