I am a resident of Lacock, Chippenham, UK. The A350 road that we live by cuts through residential, tourist and agricultural areas. It is a very fast arterial road with single track lanes joining and crossing it. There are multiple places where visibility is limited due to its layout. Just yesterday, another life was tragically lost on this road - an occurrence that is not unique.

This situation is personal to me as I witness the danger every day; the risk posed by high-speed vehicles on this stretch of road is immense. Our community deserves better than living in constant fear of accidents or fatalities. We have all sorts of road users that are at risk - from pedestrians and cyclists, to horse riders. We’ve a variety of drivers and vehicles to contend with too - farm workers with huge agricultural machinery, newly qualified student drivers attending college and tourists visiting who do not know the area or the roads. 

According to Department for Transport's statistics in 2019, there were 1,752 reported road deaths in Great Britain - many of which occurred on similar roads with high speed limits (source: Department for Transport). This statistic alone should be enough for Highways and Wiltshire Council to take action.

We demand thatWiltshire Council reduce the speed limit on the A350 between Lackham roundabout and Beanacre from its current limit down to 40mph. This reduction will significantly decrease the risk of fatal accidents occurring along this stretch of road.

Our lives are not worth risking for a few minutes saved on a journey time. We need your support now more than ever before any more lives are lost unnecessarily.
