As a middle-class American living in California, I find myself grappling with the reality of trying to make ends meet in one of the most expensive states in the country. I've diligently worked two jobs, hoping to save up a little money for a better future. But when tax season arrives, I am overwhelmed with the realization that what I thought I had saved, I actually owe to the IRS and state tax board. It's disheartening, and I know I'm not alone in this struggle.
Middle-class families across California are being crushed by high taxes and rising costs. We work hard, contribute to our communities, and yet, achieving financial security seems like a distant dream. The current tax rates significantly reduce our disposable income, making it difficult to save, invest in our futures, or even afford basic living expenses.
It's time for a change. I am calling on our state and federal legislators to implement a 10% reduction in income tax rates for middle-class Californians. This modest reduction would provide much-needed relief, allowing families to better manage their finances, save for their children's education, or simply enjoy a bit more comfort in their daily lives.
The Tax Foundation reports that California has some of the highest state income tax rates in the nation, which disproportionately impacts middle-income earners who don't benefit from the same deductions and loopholes available to wealthier individuals.
