The Issue

Dontre Hudson (21) of council bluffs, IA was found guilty of 1st degree murder and sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole. This, despite the fact that the actual shooter was charged with 2nd degree murder and received a sentence of only 50 years in prison. This disparity in sentencing is not only unjust but also highlights a systemic issue within our judicial system.

In the United States, approximately 10,000 people are wrongfully convicted each year (National Registry of Exonerations). These individuals often face harsher sentences than those who are rightfully convicted. The impact on these individuals and their families is immeasurable.

We need to address this injustice by advocating for reduced sentences for wrongfully convicted individuals like Dontre. It's time we demand fairness and justice in our legal system, ensuring that wrongful convictions do not lead to disproportionately severe punishments.

Please sign this petition to support the call for reduced sentences for wrongfully convicted individuals. Together, we can make a difference in their lives and bring about necessary change within our judicial system.
