Reduce School Hours to Enhance Student Well-being and Outdoor Activities

The Issue

As a resident of Windsor, CO, I have personally experienced the impact of long school hours on children's mental and physical health. Our children are confined within the four walls of their classrooms for 8 hours a day, leaving them with little time to engage in outdoor activities or sports. This not only affects their physical well-being but also hampers their mental growth.

Research has shown that children who engage in regular physical activity perform better acadically and are less likely to experience depression (source: American Academy of Pediatrics). Yet, our current school system does not provide enough time for these crucial activities.

I propose a reduction in school hours from 8 to 6-7 hours per day. This would still allow for sufficient academic learning if we extend certain classes' durations. More importantly, it would give our children more time outside school to play sports, enjoy nature, and relax.

This change is not just about improving academic outcomes; it's about fostering healthier lifestyles and happier minds among our young ones. It's about creating an environment where they can thrive both physically and mentally.

Please join me in calling on the Windsor School District to consider this proposal seriously. Let us prioritize our children's overall well-being over rigid schedules by reducing daily school hours while maintaining educational standards. Sign this petition today!
