Reduce Paper Wastage in CBSE Practical Files

Reduce Paper Wastage in CBSE Practical Files
The Issue
Every year, millions of CBSE students across India prepare multiple handwritten practical files as part of their coursework in subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science and more. The original intention behind these files is to encourage record-keeping, enhance understanding, and aid in systematic learning. However, the reality has shifted over time. Instead of being a tool for learning, these files have largely become a mere formality. Students end up duplicating content year after year, and the practical files are rarely referred back to after their submission.
The environmental impact of this practice cannot be overstated. Consider the sheer number of students preparing these files annually; it results in an enormous consumption of paper, contributing to deforestation, increased carbon footprint, and waste. At a time when sustainable practices are more critical than ever, continuing with this outdated method is no longer justifiable.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) must take a proactive step towards reducing this wastage. Transitioning from paper-based practical files to digital submissions is a feasible and effective solution. By leveraging technology, students can engage more interactively with their assignments, and teachers can provide instant feedback, enhancing the quality of education. Moreover, digital submissions are far easier to store, organize, and reference in the future if needed.
CBSE has the potential to set a precedent for educational boards not just in India, but globally, by adopting environmentally friendly practices. Implementing digital alternatives for practical file submissions supports sustainable development goals and educates students about the importance of environmental conservation.
Join this petition to urge CBSE to take immediate action in modernizing its submission process for practical files. Encourage a move towards a system that both enriches the educational experience and respects our planet's resources. Sign this petition to make a difference.
