Massachusetts Citizens For Sentencing Reform

The Issue

One of the main objectives in this sentencing reform is to ease the enormous burden on taxpayers.

It is estimated that it costs $55,000.00 a year to house each and every “healthy” inmate. These costs increase significantly as an inmate ages.

In order to realize the significant monetary impact of the Abolishment of Mandatory Life Without Parole the amendments have been retroactively applied to include all persons convicted, regardless of the date of conviction.

With that being said, it is important to be aware that there is an extremely structured criteria an inmate would need to fall into before being eligible or considered for parole.
