REDO Arbury Court plans for better SUNLIGHT benefits - I4YPCAMBS

The Issue

My elderly friends presently endure fuel poverty and health issues related to damp conditions. The current proposal for Arbury Court by the Council is inefficient, it will create too few flats and overlook the 'Winter Sensory' benefits of a South-facing orientation. A well-executed design has the potential to harness nature's power to reduce bills and alleviate these chronic health conditions.

We believe that the "Winter Sensory" Strategy can bring about significant improvements, not just for residents like my family but for the entire community. A South-facing design can lower energy bills, addressing the very real issue of fuel poverty. This orientation allows for maximum sunlight exposure during the winter months, reducing the need for artificial heating which not only cuts costs but also lowers carbon emissions contributing to climate change.

Moreover, increasing natural light isn't just about saving on bills. It's about health. A well-lit environment reduces the growth of mold, a common issue in poorly lit flats, and aids in combating Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and other winter-related depression. For the mental and physical wellbeing of future residents, we need to ensure that these flats incorporate as much natural light as possible.

Biodiversity should not be left out of the conversation. The proposal should also aim to create a fire-safe, pollution-eating landscape. Green areas can act as barriers to pollutants and provide necessary fire breaks, enhancing the safety and livability of the area.

We urge the Council to pause the current Arbury Court plans and consider a more thoughtful design that maximises these benefits. It is essential for the broader community to support a strategy that addresses key issues such as fuel poverty, health, and safety through innovative and sustainable architecture.

Sign this petition to call on the Council to rethink the Arbury Court proposal, ensuring it meets the needs of our community through smart, sustainable, and health-oriented design. Together, we can push for a plan that truly benefits all its residents.
