Redirect Proposed Cabling for North Irish Sea Array to Prevent Traffic Chaos
The Issue
As Residents of Malahide, County Dublin, we are deeply concerned about the proposed cabling route for the North Irish Sea Array. The current plan is to lay cables down the Malahide Swords Road (R106) and the Malahide Dublin Road (R107). This will cause 12 months of traffic chaos affecting schools, commuters, and public transport. The congestion will also lead to increased exhaust pollution in our community.
Malahide is home to almost 20,000 people who rely on these roads daily. Our children attend schools along these routes and we have several businesses that could be severely impacted by this disruption. Moreover, according to Ireland's Environmental Protection Agency, road transport contributes significantly to air pollution with significant health impacts.
We propose a cross-country route for the cabling which would minimize disruption and prevent unnecessary pollution in our community. We believe this solution respects both our need for renewable energy infrastructure and our right as residents not to be unduly disrupted or exposed to harmful pollutants.
Please sign this petition urging decision-makers at all levels in Ireland - Fingal County Council Roads and Transportation Department, An Bord Pleanala, Eirgrid and the North Irish Sea Array Project team -to reconsider their plans and reroute the proposed cabling for North Irish Sea Array cross country and off road rather than down R106 & R107 roads in Malahide Area.
