We started this petition campaign to gather signatures and a show of support three years ago on July 22, 2022. Today 5,150 individuals have signed the change.org petition to redesignate the National Park Service unit known today as Arlington House, the Robert E. Lee Memorial as Arlington House National Historic Site. The bar chart highlights the support received from people in every state. More than 3,200 zip codes are represented. We have also received signatures from 19 different countries.
Congressman Don Beyer of VA has introduced legislation in four Congresses. Most recently he introduced House Joint Resolution 63 (H.J. Res. 63) on February 27, 2025. You can see the text of the current bill here.
As of July 19th, with the addition of a petition supporter from Pennsylvania's 9th Congressional District, every one of the 435 U.S. House of Representatives congressional districts is represented on the petition. See the signature density map here. More than 3,200 zip codes are represented. We have received signatures from 19 different countries. That is quite an accomplishment. Now, when we meet with elected officials to educate on the history of the Arlington House plantation and talk about the value of the redesignation, we can point to the fact that citizens nationwide have expressed Their support for this legislation.
More support and more voices are needed. In the current environment in which policies are attempting to stifle history, we endeavor to keep this important effort in the public consciousness. If you have signed the petition, THANK YOU! Now continue to help us by passing the word to other citizens willing to support this cause, but have not heard about this effort!

Anyone over 18 years of age can sign. If we each were to garner just one more signature today, we'd have over 10,000 signatures tomorrow.
Thank you!
