Redefine the Gender of "Baguette" in French Language

The Issue

Bread, a basic necessity, a staple food for millions around the world, can actually handle a gender shift from feminine to masculine. Language evolves with society, and it is natural for it to construct and reconstruct its rules to suit the ever-changing nuanced world better. Around the world, languages have been adapting their pronouns and noun genders to accommodate and respect shifts in understanding gender and identity. The Harvard Gazette, in 2016, reported that Sweden had introduced a gender-neutral pronoun 'hen' alongside 'han' (he) and 'hon' (she). Consequently, this minor shift could create a more inclusive linguistic environment.

Join me in requesting that the Académie Française, the official regulatory body of the French language, redefine 'baguette' to its masculine form 'un baguette'.
