Reconsider the Prohibition of Lobotomies in the United Kingdom

Reconsider the Prohibition of Lobotomies in the United Kingdom
The Issue
I speak from a place of deep personal conviction; everyone possesses a brain, and the power to choose what they do with it should be a universal right.
Lobotomies, a now largely outmoded neurosurgical procedure, were prohibited in the UK in the mid-20th century following wide recognition of their associated risks and complications. However, given advancements in scientific knowledge and medical procedures, there's a plea to reopen the debate surrounding lobotomies.
Although historically associated with damaging side-effects, it's essential to recognize that the procedure emerged during a time when understanding of brain functionality was less advanced than it is today. Therefore, revisiting the issue in light of new technology and medical knowledge could permit a more informed decision.
In a scientific analysis conducted by Harvard Medical School, contemporary neuroscience still uncovers therapeutic potential in some brain-altering procedures, even if not directly related to lobotomies. Therefore, withholding a blanket ban on an erstwhile procedure without a current relevant understanding can be regarded as restrictive in a field marked by vast changes over just a few decades.
We ask the UK government to evaluate the evidence-based merits and demerits of lobotomies, taking into account all scientific and technological advancements, and consider their potential re-legalization based upon this thorough investigation. Please sign this petition and help open a dialogue on this important issue.
