Stop the greed Woolworths: Undo proposed changes for online shoppers
The issue
As a loyal Woolworths customer, I am deeply disappointed with the announcement for anyone that does online shopping:
- The 10% offer will no longer apply for online shoppers (Woolworths Mobile, Woolworths Insurance and Everyday Extra).
- They are also hiking the price of the Everyday Extra program from $59 to $70, and you will only receive x2 points instead of x3.
- On top of this, for Delivery Unlimited subscribers, they are changing the minimum order amount from $50 to $75, and will start charging $1 for plastic and $2 for paper bags.
The rising cost of groceries has become a major source of financial stress for all of us. While Australians are facing the heat of the rising cost of living, the supermarket giants have been making profits worth millions. In fact, Woolworths' net profit after tax was up 14 per cent to $907 million this year. Surely, Woolies can afford to keep the rewards programs as they are, to support vulnerable Aussies?
This change is not just a matter of financial impact; it is a matter of equity and fairness. Many Australians rely on online deliveries for various reasons, such as being immunocompromised, disabled, elderly, living in rural locations, or simply being time-poor. By excluding these customers, Woolworths is discriminating against those who are unable to physically visit stores.
I urge Woolworths to undo the changes for online shoppers to support customers during the cost-of-living crisis. While it is understandable that businesses need to adapt and evolve, it is also crucial for companies like Woolworths to help their customers during these challenging times.
Please sign this petition to urge Woolworths to retain the 10% discount for online shoppers, address the price hike for the Everyday Extra program, and review the threshold increase for the Delivery Unlimited service.
