The issue

As proud members of the South Australian hillclimb community, we stand to express our deep concern over the decision to allocate the Australian Hillclimb Championships in 2025 to The Bend Motorsport Park, a location ill-fitted for hillclimbing events. For generations, we have cherished this sport, taking pride in the unique challenges of hillclimbing, which come from navigating steep inclines and sharp turns. The Bend is, without any doubt, a high-quality Motorsport facility, but it lacks the key element that defines hillclimbing - actual hills.

Referencing the standard definition of hillclimbing originating from the UK, it is clear that this sport requires an uphill course. Unfortunately, The Bend does not meet these fundamental requirements. Rather, it's more suitable for sprint racing on flat terrain. We question the process behind this decision-making, and both as competitors and lovers of this historic sport, we seek transparency and fairness.

We, therefore, ask Motorsport Australia to revisit the decision and conduct an in-depth review into the allocation of the Australian Hillclimb Championships 2025. We pursue this not merely on grounds of personal disappointment, but in the spirit of maintaining the integrity and tradition of hillclimbing in Australia.

Please sign this petition if you too believe in preserving our historic sporting tradition and ensuring that championships truly reflect the sports they represent.
