Mr. Harris has been a cornerstone of our community for over two decades, dedicating approximately 20.5 years of his life to the Monroe Fire Department. During his time, he has not only protected our community with diligence and skill but has also been a remarkable leader and role model for many. His commitment to our safety, combined with his selfless service, makes him an irreplaceable member of Monroe.

Mr. Harris’ departure was for serious, documented medical reasons, including stress and PTSD, stemming from his experiences as a firefighter and  veteran who served honorably in Afghanistan. This was not a decision taken lightly but a necessary step for his health and well-being. Despite these challenges, he heroically continued to demonstrate his dedication to our community whenever possible.

Now, he wishes to return to his post, ready and eager to bring his expertise and leadership back to our local fire department. The decision to prevent his return appears unjust, considering his exceptional history of service and the legitimacy of his medical leave. Mr. Harris is not only a devoted public servant but also an exceptional father and leader, whose qualities and experience are invaluable to our fire department.

We urge the City of Monroe, its Fire Department, the Civil Service Board, and all relevant officials to reconsider their stance on Mr. Harris' return. Our community stands to benefit greatly from his continued service, and his return would reaffirm our commitment to supporting our veterans and community leaders.
