The Issue

As students of Class 9, we find ourselves grappling with the sudden imposition of a mandatory third-language rule, which has markedly affected our academic journey in the 2026-27 academic year. The decision by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has left us without the required textbooks and facing a more challenging syllabus. After investing three years in learning languages like Sanskrit and French, we're facing the challenge of adapting to this new requirement.

The introduction of this rule not only disrupts our current studies but also diverts focus from essential skill-based education that could better prepare us for the future. At this stage, as we are laying the foundation for our future careers, it is crucial that we learn skills that will benefit us in a rapidly changing world. We believe that educational policies should prioritize equipping students with necessary skills, rather than enforcing a broad yet less practical curriculum mandate without proper resources to support this transition.

It’s pertinent to note that the availability of resources is crucial to the implementation of any new academic policy. Presently, the lack of printed textbooks exacerbates the difficulty in adapting to this rule. The change was implemented abruptly without giving students, teachers, and parents time to prepare, adding an additional layer of stress for all parties involved. This decision might also contribute to higher dropout rates as some students may struggle to cope with the increased demands.

Therefore, we urge the Education Ministry to reconsider this policy. By exploring alternatives such as offering voluntary third-language courses or introducing new skill-development subjects that could enhance our future, the ministry can ensure that education remains a region for creating well-rounded, capable individuals.

We call upon students, parents, educators, and concerned citizens to sign this petition and support our plea for a more balanced and practically oriented educational curriculum. Let's push for educational reforms that truly serve the needs of today’s students and create a better tomorrow.
