Recognize that anti-transgender activism harms Jewish communities

Recognize that anti-transgender activism harms Jewish communities
The Issue
As a concerned citizen of Florida, I am deeply troubled by the intersection of antisemitism and anti-transgender activism in our state. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has reported that antisemitism and anti-LGBTQ+ hate often converge through extremist, conspiratorial beliefs (ADL, 2023). This poses a threat not only to the Jewish community but also to the dignity and rights of transgender individuals.

Florida's government has taken commendable steps in recognizing antisemitism as a serious threat to both our economy and society. However, there is a glaring inconsistency when anti-transgender legislation, which inherently carries antisemitic undertones, is still enforced statewide. Militant anti-transgender laws, such as those pushed by Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminists (TERFs) and proponents of so-called 'detransition' agendas, propagate harmful stereotypes that undermine Jewish safety and are detrimental to our diverse communities.
Legislation that marginalizes transgender individuals ultimately creates an unsafe environment for many, including Jewish people who are often scapegoated or demonized within these narratives. Florida must send a strong message by acknowledging these discriminatory ties and take action to repeal harmful laws.
Our state can and should lead the charge in fostering an environment that respects and protects all its citizens, irrespective of their gender identity or religious beliefs. We urge the Florida government to reevaluate these laws with a comprehensive understanding of their deeper societal impacts. By doing so, we can affirm our commitment to justice and the safety of every community within the state.
I am calling upon my fellow Floridians and allies nationwide to stand firm against the intersection of antisemitism and anti-transgender activism. Together, we must demand that our lawmakers recognize and amend these injustices. Please sign this petition and support our quest for a society free of hate and discrimination.
