Recognize Military Identification for Pennsylvania Driver's License Applications

The Issue

I am a resident of Pennsylvania and a proud member of the United States military. Recently, I experienced an unfortunate situation where my valid out-of-state driver's license, military ID, and social security card were deemed inadequate to prove my US citizenship when applying for a Pennsylvania driver's license. This incident left me feeling frustrated and marginalized.

In many states across the country, military identification cards are accepted as proof of identity for various services including obtaining a driver’s license. However, in Pennsylvania this is not the case. This policy not only inconveniences service members but also undermines the validity of military identification cards which are issued by our federal government.

According to data from the Department of Defense (DoD), there are approximately 1.3 million active-duty personnel in our armed forces who could potentially face similar issues if they choose to relocate to or reside in Pennsylvania (source: DoD). It is essential that we address this issue promptly to ensure that those serving our country do not face unnecessary hurdles while accessing basic services.

We urge the state authorities in Pennsylvania to revise their policies and allow military identification cards as acceptable proof of identity when applying for a driver's license. Let us honor our service members by acknowledging their sacrifices and making their lives easier wherever possible.

Please sign this petition if you believe in fair treatment for all residents regardless of their profession or place of origin.
