Recognize Kurdistan as an independent country

Recognize Kurdistan as an independent country
The Issue
For over 2500 years, the Kurdish people have maintained a distinct culture, language, and history, marking them as a unique ethnicity within the borders of the Middle East. And yet, despite our rich heritage and the trials we have endured, our desire for an independent Kurdistan has gone unfulfilled. Our people have faced discrimination, violence, and oppression simply for being Kurdish. We have been mistreated, marginalized, and subjected to unspeakable injustices. As Kurds, many of us have experienced forced migrations, denial of basic human rights, and the continuous struggle to preserve our linguistic and cultural identity.
Kurdistan, geographically spread across Turkey, Iran, Iraq, and Syria, is home to over 30 million Kurds. Historically, the Kurdish people have always sought self-determination. However, geopolitical dynamics and regional conflicts have consistently thwarted our ambition for a sovereign state. The systematic disenfranchisement of our community and the attempts to erase our identity are crimes against the essence of what makes us Kurdish.
The international community's recognition of Kurdistan is not just a matter of principle and historical justice; it is a necessary step toward peace and stability in the region. Kurds have significantly contributed to the fight against terrorism, notably against ISIS, showcasing our commitment to global peace. Yet, the rewards and support for these sacrifices are often politically motivated neglect.
By recognizing Kurdistan as an independent nation, global powers can aid in constructing a genuine democratic society in the Middle East—one that respects all ethnicities and religions, contributing to the region's stability. International recognition would allow Kurds to rightfully build economic independence and forge meaningful partnerships, fostering prosperity not just for the Kurdish people but for our neighbours as well.
We call upon the United Nations and influential global leaders to acknowledge our steadfast history and endorse the sovereignty of Kurdistan. Help us build a future where Kurds can live freely in a nation of our own, without fear of persecution. We urge you to stand with us in solidarity and support our plea for independence.
Please, sign this petition to acknowledge Kurdistan as an independent country and to promote freedom, justice, and peace in the Middle East.
Under international law, particularly the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter and the right of peoples to self-determination, the Kurdish people meet every criterion for statehood: a permanent population, a shared national identity, a defined homeland, and a clear, sustained desire for self-governance. Recognition of Kurdistan would not set a dangerous precedent, but rather correct a long-standing historical injustice that has denied millions the right to determine their own future. A sovereign Kurdistan would be committed to peaceful coexistence, democratic governance, human rights, and regional cooperation, serving as a stabilizing force rather than a source of conflict.
