Recognize endometriosis and adenomyosis as disabilities
Recognize endometriosis and adenomyosis as disabilities
The Issue
For many years, I have been suffering in silence with debilitating pain and health challenges due to endometriosis. Having only recently received a diagnosis, I find myself unable to work and struggling to afford the only treatment that offers relief: pelvic floor physiotherapy. This therapy is crucial for managing my condition, yet its high cost puts it out of reach for many like me.
Endometriosis and adenomyosis affect millions of women globally, leading to chronic pain, infertility, and a significant reduction in quality of life. Despite the severe impact of these conditions, they are not recognized as disabilities, leaving countless women without the necessary support and resources. Many are left to navigate their health struggles without adequate medical coverage for treatment options like pelvic physiotherapy, which is proven to alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life.
According to the World Health Organization, at least 10% of women of reproductive age are affected by endometriosis. Despite this alarming statistic, awareness and understanding of the condition remain painfully low. Without clear legal recognition as a disability, access to essential treatments is limited, and financial burdens are placed on those who are already suffering.
We urgently need policies in place that recognize the severity of these conditions and provide comprehensive support through healthcare systems and insurance policies. Recognizing endometriosis and adenomyosis as disabilities would pave the way for better access to medical treatment, including necessary pelvic physiotherapy, which many sufferers like myself cannot afford.
We call on lawmakers and health organizations to prioritize women's health by formally recognizing endometriosis and adenomyosis as disabilities. Providing coverage for pelvic physiotherapy will significantly alleviate the suffering of millions and improve their chances of leading healthy, fulfilling lives.
Please sign this petition to bring change and help secure a more supportive and equitable healthcare system for women facing these debilitating conditions.
