Recognize Bunnies as Legitimate Service Animals in California

The Issue

My bunny, Skylar, saved my life. This attentive, smart, and intuitive bunny not only touched my life, but also made an impact on countless others. Skylar has been registered as a service animal, and is greatly cherished at a local memory care center where he volunteers, showering unconditional love and companionship. However, despite Skylar's dedication, his species is not officially recognized by congress or the ADA as service animals. This misalignment provoked me to take action.

Currently in California, only dogs and miniature horses are recognized as service animals. Yet, a multitude of testimonials and research confirm the beneficial therapeutic effects of other species, like bunnies, as emotional support animals. Recognizing only dogs and miniature horses contradicts the essence of the value of emotional therapy animals, which is based on deep, emotional connections rather than species.

Let us work towards equality and free love as defined by our relationships with our animals, and not be confined by species. In the spirit of fair recognition of service animals, it is essential for California to broaden its service animal law. Let's unify to ensure that our law reflects our values and the realities of our state's diverse animal-loved citizens.

We call upon the California State Legislature to extend the definition of service animals to include bunnies. Let's make a difference by declaring that all species capable of providing supportive services should be recognized. Let's love freely without restrictions. Sign this petition to recognize bunnies as legitimate service animals in California.
