I've always been puzzled by the fact that Antarctica, despite having its own flag, is not recognized as a country. This vast expanse of land, almost 1.5 times the size of Canada, remains unclaimed and unacknowledged in terms of sovereignty. It's intriguing to me how a tiny island like New Zealand can be classified as a country while Antarctica is just considered a random piece of land.

The world's second-largest landmass isn't permanently inhabited but Vatican City - which is essentially just a city - has earned the status of being an independent country. The Arctic may be dismissed due to its nature as a frozen ocean, but why should that apply to Antarctica?

Antarctica holds immense potential for scientific research and understanding our planet better. Its unique environment and climate make it an invaluable resource for studying climate change and environmental conservation.

It's high time we reconsider how we classify countries and acknowledge the significance of this "random piece of land".
