Every day, I read stories of people being harmed or injured while riding or encountering e-bikes and e-scooters on the streets of New South Wales. These devices, while innovative and sustainable, are not classified as motorcycles under current regulations, and this misclassification is posing significant risks both to riders and pedestrians. To allow younger drivers the minimum age could be lowered for a motorcycle licence (to 14?) . 

These devices should be registered and licensed as a motorcycle. A newer physical licence format (a QR code on a sticker?) might be needed for all such small powered transport devices. 

This reclassification would remove confusion and a lack of accountability in accidents, clarify insurance claims and legal processes for both riders and victims. By reclassifying e-bikes and e-scooters to reflect their true nature, we can use existing regulations that enhance safety while encouraging the adoption of greener modes of transport.

 I urge the government of New South Wales to reassess the current classification of e-bikes and e-scooters. Please change the classification to match that of motorcycles.
