Reclaim the Exclusive Parking Rights for the Senior Class at Valor Christian High School

The Issue

I, alongside fellow members of the senior class of 2025 at Valor Christian High School, am raising a voice against the unforeseen change in our parking rights. We, who have awaited this privilege for three long years, are now forced to share our limited parking space with the junior class due to hurdles that we are not responsible for.

It was reported that juniors parking illegally in our lot and ongoing construction compelled the administration to make this drastic change. However, this decision directly undermines the seniors' earned rights and it adds stress to our last year in high school. One cannot overlook the matter of safety in crowded school parking lots.

According to a study by the National Safety Council, student parking lots that are not properly organized contribute to a substantial number of accidents involving young drivers. Qualitative research by Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center reveals that when high school parking lots are adequately controlled and assigned, the number of accidents decreases by almost 85%. Hence, not only does this change affect us practically, affecting our convenience, but it is also a potential safety hazard.

We deserve to have our parking rights restored to us. We request the school administration to reassess this decision and find another solution to the problem faced by the junior class. We should not have to suffer due to the indiscriminate actions of the junior class or to make room for the construction work. We call upon the community of Highlands Ranch, CO, to support our cause and push for restoring our rights. Please sign our petition.
