Forty-one states have officially legalized medical marijuana in the United States - but Tennessee is not among them.
In a state which particularly concentrates on utilizing their amendments, why is our right to vote not being fully exercised?
It has recently been released that legislation denied the addition of three important questions to a bill in 2024s Ballot in November. Those questions being :
- Should the State of Tennessee legalize medical marijuana?
- Should the State of Tennessee decriminalize possession of less than one ounce of marijuana?
- Should the State of Tennessee legalize and regulate commercial sales of recreational use marijuana?

Upon recent articles is the legislative’s reasoning behind the rejection. That reasoning is “voter’s fatigue”. Apparently, they feel as if the ballots are already too long and voters would not even be interested in filling it out. As a citizen who exercises their right to vote, I believe this excuse is ludicrous. Yes, one vote gives me “voters fatigue”, but I would jump right up to the polls to be able to vote ‘YAY’ for the legalization of medical marijuana.
Even if the PEOPLE of the State of Tennessee were to vote against the bill, the purpose of the vote is to simply have our right to vote upon it, because it is just that - our RIGHT.
This petition is not a “vote yes for marijuana” petition, but a “right to vote for marijuana” petition. I believe that “voter’s fatigue” is not a valid reasoning to deny the bill. It is clear that “they” are making the decisions for us. I do not think that I am alone in wanting to vote for THIS, among all things! If voter’s fatigue is all they’ve got, then let’s show them just how AWAKE we are, because I am not tired!
