The Issue

Last year, Oklahoma City took a step that endangered our constitutional rights—our city officials renewed contracts with Flock Safety, adding invasive surveillance cameras throughout our communities. This decision was made without any oversight plan, leaving us vulnerable to potential privacy violations that challenge our Fourth Amendment rights. I have long been concerned about the unchecked expansion of surveillance technology in our neighborhoods, especially without concrete evidence that it improves safety.

What's frustrating is the council’s insistence on renewing these contracts despite the lack of transparency and data on their effectiveness. Claims of increased safety due to these cameras lack substantive backing and fail to justify this invasive approach. In fact, studies have shown that such cameras often do not deter crime as promised, merely providing a false sense of security.

Flock Cameras capture footage of our daily lives, and while officials argue this is for the greater good, they have yet to address the potential for misuse or the impact on innocent citizens. There are no comprehensive plans detailing who has access to this data or for how long it is stored. This oversight vacuum not only jeopardizes our privacy but also diminishes trust in our local governance.

We must hold accountable those who disregard public input and data-driven policy approaches. It's time to demand transparency and responsibility from the officials who promised to protect our rights. Without proper checks and balances, we risk setting a dangerous precedent that allows for further erosion of fundamental liberties.

This is why I urge you to support recalling the Mayor and city council members who voted for this measure without adequate forethought. Together, let's make our voices heard to ensure decisions affecting our lives are made with genuine community interest, transparency, and adherence to constitutional rights.

Please sign this petition to demand accountability, safeguard our privacy, and ensure that the decision-making process reflects the voices of the Oklahoma City community.

The recall is for Oklahoma City Council members Bradley Carter, Katrina Ayers, Todd Stane, and Matthew Hinkle as well as Mayor of Oklahoma City David Holt.
